i repeated & scribbled until it picked its way & stagnated somewhere i can’t point to anymore, maybe my gut—
maybe there in-between my pancreas & large intestine is the piddly brook of my soul.
it’s the ruler by which i reduce all things now; hard-edged & splintering from knowledge that used to sit, a cloth against fevered forehead.
can i let them both be? this fickle faith and this college science that heckles from the back of the classroom
now i can’t believe—
that the bible and qur’an and bhagavad gita are sliding long hairs behind my ear like mom used to & exhaling from their mouths “make room for wonder”—
all my understanding dribbles down the chin onto the chest & is summarized as:
life is merely
to ovum and sperm
and where those two meet
and how often and how well
and what dies there.

The woman shot dead by a federal immigration agent in Minneapolis has been identified as Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three who had just moved to the city.
She was a prize-winning poet and a hobby guitarist, who city leaders have said was there as a legal observer of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities.
But the Trump administration has called her a “domestic terrorist”.
Good’s death has sparked protests across the country, with many people holding signs that read “Justice for Renee”.

Leonardo Guzzo è scrittore e giornalista. È nato a Napoli nel 1979 e vive a Sapri, sulla costa del Cilento. Laureato in Scienze Politiche alla LUISS di Roma, scrive per “Il Mattino” di Napoli, “L’Osservatore Romano” e la rivista “50&più”. Collabora con la rivista letteraria Nuovi Argomenti, col Journal of Italian Translation della City University di New York e con la Victoria University di Wellington, in Nuova Zelanda. Leonardo Guzzo is a writer and journalist. He was born in Naples in 1979 and lives in Sapri, on the Cilento coast. Graduated in Political Sciences at LUISS in Rome, he writes for “Il Mattino” of Naples, “L’Osservatore Romano” and the magazine “50&più”. After the short story collections “Le radici del mare” (Pequod, 2015) and “Terre Emerse” (Pequod, 2019), he published “Beco. Vita in romanzo di Ayrton Senna” at the end of 2021, in which he retraces the life and myth of the Formula One champion between reality and invention, in an epic and intimate key. With the title of “Veloz como o vento. A vida de Ayrton Senna em romance” (Maquinaria Editorial, 2024) the novel was also published in Brazil.
